Camping & Fishing

As I mentioned in The Spark(s) section, I was inspired since a young age to enjoy, explore and experience nature, and one of my favorite family outings has been and continues to be Camping.

Most of I what I know I have learned by watching and following my Uncle Julio in many outdoor trips and family vacations over the years, especially camping and fishing expeditions into the mountains outside of our native Cordoba. Some of the favorite places included Cuesta Blanca, San Clemente and Icho Cruz, all beautiful, wild locations with a river nearby. Lakes like Embalse and San Roque were also destinations, mostly for fishing. I must note that, whatever I still haven’t learnt is due to my own limitations, and not through anyone else’s fault.

Mountaneering and Hiking

I enjoy hiking and moderate climbing. My experience in Argentina is in the Cordoba mountains.

In the Sierras Grandes, I have explored the Champaqui area, but have not summitted. In the Sierras Chicas around the Punilla Valley, I have enjoyed climbing Mount Uritorco (1,984m) several times, including sleeping under the starts without a tent or shelter.

Around those areas, I have explored Escobas, Cerro Pajarillo, Las Gemelas, Los Mogotes, the Ongamira Caves and Los Terrones, as well as nearby rivers, streams and mountain lakes like San Jeronimo and Los Alazanes.

Hiking is more forgiving on both the joints and the time it takes to prepare, so lately I find myself favoring this activity more and more. A favorite outing is to hike with the aim of reaching a waterfall, a lake, or perhaps a panoramic view atop of a hill. To be in and with Nature.
